Arsenal tipped to land £52m transfer after Man United deal 'collapsed'

Arsenal are reportedly considered to be strong contenders to sign Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller and have been handed a boost in their hopes after Manchester United's last gasp move for the German collapsed this summer.

Stiller is widely considered to be one of the best midfielders on the market and, unsurprisingly, this has led to many teams across Europe being linked with him. The 24-year-old was particularly linked with Liverpool and United in the most recent window, with the latter believed to have made a big move for him in the final hours of the window.

According to Caught Offside, United attempted to add Stiller to their team to strengthen their midfield. However, it is understood their advances were rebuffed by the player and his team.

United are also believed to have looked into the prospect of triggering a £27.8m release clause. But, these attempts were also futile as that clause is only valid in certain windows.

Instead, it is understood that the Bundesliga club would require £52m before they considered selling Stiller. With United left rejected, it is the Gunners who are seen to be strong favourites to eventually sign the German international.

Mikel Arteta's project is thought to appeal to Stiller as it values young players and provides a platform for consistent game time. However, the midfielder is believed to be in no rush to leave Stuttgart.

Interest in Stiller is not solely reserved to teams in the Premier League. Bayern Munich are thought to be keeping a watchful eye on the midfielder after previously having him on their books between 2010 and 2021.

Real Madrid are thought to have an informal interest in Stiller while their El Clasico rivals Barcelona have added him to their shortlist. The issue for the Catalan club is that their financial situation means signing players for large sums is still a problem.
