Paul Weller reveals unusual reason he refuses to watch Oasis concerts

Paul Weller has admitted he won't be joining the hundreds of thousands of fans taking in the epic Oasis reunion tour this summer. Despite The Jam star, 67, being a close pal of Noel Gallagher, he's revealed he has no intention of watching hiseagerly awaited return to the stage with brother Liam and the band.

Explaining his thought process behind his decision, Paul confessed he isn't a fan of stadium shows and prefers to see bands perform in more intimate venues. He made his point clear during an interview with Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2.

The musician, who features on a number of Oasis tracks including Champagne Supernova, explained: "I’ve not been to see them [Oasis], no ... I’m not a big fan of big gigs, I said to Noel, a few weeks or months ago: 'Are you going to do any warm-ups?’ which he wasn’t, but, I’d go and see something like that in a smaller venue, but I just don’t like big gigs. It doesn’t matter who it was, really."

He went on: "Inevitably, it doesn’t matter too much where you’re sitting unless you’re right in the front row, you just end up watching the screens. It kind of spoils a bit for me because I want to see whoever is playing or singing, and I want to be able to see them."

Despite has snubbing of the shows, Paul revealed he is delighted for his pal. He said the reunion has proved to be a "big cultural moment".

"You know how it’s going to go for him, it’s going to be mad," Paul continued. "I said to him that it’s going to be a cultural moment because the amount of people I speak to just out on the street, not necessarily who you’d think would be an Oasis fan, but they are all going to it, and it’s a big cultural moment, I think that will be remembered forever ...

"There’s probably not too many bands like them [Oasis] at the moment, y’know, kind of guitar music. I can’t think of any, not from the UK anyway, maybe Fontaines DC is different and people like that. So, I think it’s definitely a younger audience who missed out on that ’90s thing."

The Oasis Live '25 Tour started in the UK in Cardiff with shows on July 4 and 5 before heading to the band's hometown of Manchester for five gigs at Heaton Park between July 11 and 16. Gigs in London, Edinburgh and Dublin will wrap up their UK and Ireland offerings before heading to North America, South Korea, Japan, Australia and South America.

The tour will conclude in Sao Paulo, Brazil on November 25, but there have been rumours of further dates in 2026. One location that missed out of this year's running was Rome.

But this could all change in the coming weeks, it appears. The Rome City Councillor for Major Events suggested last week that there are currently talks to have the band perform in the capital city, Rome.

Alessandro Onorato said: "Oasis in the capital? These are live shows for companies that organise events all over the world, and the financial aspect is crucial. Negotiations are underway." He went on to tell Radio Sei that in the past, Rome had missed out on huge opportunities.

He explained: "Organising a large event in Rome is very complicated; in the past, Rome has been the 'city of missed opportunities.'" It's not the first time that Onorato has been vocal about wanting Liam and Noel to perform in the capital. In September last year, days after the reunion was announced, he said: "In 2026, Oasis could take their tour to Europe. And yes, we've applied to host them in Rome."
