Harriet Cowan has landed a new job with the BBC following her exit from Clarkson's Farm. The 24-year-old joined Jeremy Clarkson in running Diddly Squat Farm during series four while Kaleb Cooper headed on tour. She has now traded in the hayfields for the broadcasting world after joining BBC Derbyshire in a new position. Sticking to her roots, Harriet has been developing a fresh series titled Farm Watch, which shines a light on rural life.
Taking over the radio station's social media, Harriet gave fans a peek at what was going on behind-the-scenes. She also discussed Farm24, a yearly celebration honouring farmers throughout the UK. The digital initiative aims to demonstrate the extensive work involved in farming during a 24-hour timeframe, with farmers urged to document their agricultural experiences from 5am until 5am the next day. Taking to Instagram, she expressed gratitude to her supporters for backing the initiative and all those who watched the programme.
She told her followers: "I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone that supported Farm 24 and BBC Farm Watch yesterday. It was an amazing day that showcased so many farmers and how hard a 24 period on a farm actually is for every single farmer out there.
"So a massive, massive thank you. Thank you so much for listening on all things Farm 24 and our BBC Farm Watch radio presenting show last night."
It comes after Harriet hit out at the Labour government as she shared an emotional message about farming. In a video, she began: "Farm24 is showcasing to the general public, over a 24-hour period, what a farmer gets up to.
"The Government should invest more time and money into farming because we need it. It's a bit of a dying industry otherwise."
Harriet continued: "Going forward, I hope that the next generation of farmers will be recognised more by the public and the Government, especially to put British farming on the map and for people to be aware that we are here.
"Being part of the community is probably the most rewarding part for me. You have your neighbours and you're all in tune with each other. You can talk, and if you're having problems, they'll all be there to help you."
Last month, Harriet made an announcement about her future on Clarkson's Farm, revealing she's not shutting the door on Diddly Squat just yet.
Speaking to the Sunday Times's Style Magazine, she said: "I've always said I'll be very open if Jeremy needs me again."
"We've sort of left it like that. If he needs me, I'm here." Her comments come as Clarkson revealed the current harvest has already hit trouble - something that could potentially see him calling on extra help."
