I'm a gardener - there's 1 flower you should plant now if you want amazing flower display

Alliums are stunning, with their tall stems and spherical flower displays. They provide a delightful floral bridge between springtime and summertime, when the majority of other spring flowers have died back and we await the arrival of summer colour.

Allium bulbs can be planted now in pots, beds and borders. Bulbs should be planted about 15 cm deep so they can establish deep roots and support the tall stems. Alliums will want to be planted in free draining soil in a sheltered spot that gets full sun in your garden.

The yellowing leaves look unsightly however as Alliums are tall flowers they can be planted at the back of beds and borders, allowing plants at the front to hide those yellow leaves.

The Allium stems and flowers will stand tall in the pots, beds and borders in May into June.

Even when the little flowers dieback the stems and spheres are still worth keeping in the beds and borders as ornamental structure and points of interest.
