A man has tragically died on the M6, bringing traffic on a stretch of the M6 motorway to a standstill.
Drivers witnessed dramatic emergency scenes in the Ashton area of Greater Manchester between junctions 25 and 26 on Wednesday morning.
Greater Manchester Police said a man was pronounced dead at the scene after officers received a "concern for welfare" report shortly at around 10:15am.
National Highways said: "The M6 southbound remains closed from junction 26 to junction 25 due to a police-led incident. All traffic caught within the closure has been released. There's six miles of congestion on approach to junction 26 and 60 minute delays above normal journey times."
