A seasoned hiker has praised a stunning country walk that she says might be the best in the whole of the UK. With a final blast of hot weather set to hit the UK this bank holiday weekend, many will consider getting out of their city to the countryside for a nice, refreshing walk in the sunshine. This walk, according to these Instagram users, is perhaps the best in the country, or at least in the top three.
Loz and Steph, who run the Instagram account @girlswhowalktopubss, show off their favourite walks across the country, which always feature a stop at a local pub. One of their latest adventures brought them to Sturry in Kent, where they experienced the Sturry Circular walk. "A huge call, but this could be one of our best walks ever," they said in a viral post showing off the walk's highlights, calling out its "amazing pubs" and "beautiful scenery."
"It had everything - beautiful scenery, amazing pubs, local wine and cider tasting, orchards for days and the most incredible wild swim in crystal clear water," they said.
The Sturry Circular's 18-kilometre trail takes in some stunning scenery. It takes around four hours and is relatively easy despite its length, with not much incline. On this walk, you will be taken through rich woodland, with the option to go all the way to Canterbury or complete the loop and end up back where you started.
You will get the train to Sturry and take a short walk to the neighbouring town of Fordwich, where the walk starts. From here, expect to pass some pubs and make sure to bring swimming gear, as there will be the option for a dip before a pint in a lovely beer garden.
"I think we found the ultimate summer walk to pub route," the Instagrammers said. "Starting in Sturry with a little warm-up, we then headed to Fordwich, where this walk ends as it's a circular walk, filled with fresh fruit and berries along the way, which was a surprise.
"Another surprise was Woolton Farm, where we got to taste their cider and wine. We then headed to the Rose Inn for a little pitstop for lunch and then a walk back to Fordwich where we hit the George & Dragon up, but not before a lovely swim on a beautiful summer's hot day just across from the beer garden."
Sturry is a small village in the Kent countryside, with its closest major town being Canterbury. It is also located not too far from Whistable and Herne Bay on the Kentish coast.
Along the route, there is a choice of two pubs to stop for lunch: The Rose Inn and The Red Lion. Meanwhile, the George & Dragon is located at the end of the route. "Make it a pub crawl like we did and do them all," the walkers said.
They also stress that Woolton Farm is not to be missed, with its "wine and cider tasting in their stunning campgrounds surrounded by apple orchards". Additionally, a swim at the Stour, right next to the George and Dragon pub, made this walk extra special for the two hikers.
The pair got to the scenic country walk from London by taking a direct train from London Bridge to Sturry.
