US authorities have issued a warning to Celsius energy drinks consumers after a packaging blunder led to vodka being mistakenly added to some cans.
The US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) said the warning applies to the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition of the Celsius energy drink.
According to the agency, a packaging supplier accidentally shipped empty Celsius cans to vodka seltzer brand High Noon, which then unknowingly filled them with alcohol.
As a result, High Noon is also recalling some of its Beach Variety packs that were filled on the same production line.
The USFDA confirmed that no illnesses or adverse events have been reported for the impacted products so far, as reported by BBC.
The recall affects two production lots that were distributed to retailers in Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin between 21 July and 23 July.
The recalled High Noon packs carry the retail code UPC 085000040065 and the following lot codes:
“Consumers are advised to dispose of the Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink, Sparkling Blue Razz Edition cans with the impacted lot codes, and not consume the liquid,” the USFDA said.
It added that High Noon Beach Variety packs with different lot codes are not affected by the recall and remain safe to consume.
