'Thought that was going to hit me': Delivery man nearly escapes lightning while dropping off food in New Jersey - watch

During a thunderstorm, a food delivery man in New Jersey narrowly avoided being hit by lightning, on Monday evening.

The incident was captured entirely on a doorbell camera.

The footage shows the man approaching the front door of a home in Wayne, carrying a brown bag of food.

He rang the doorbell and waited on the front porch for a few seconds before a lightning bolt struck just behind him with a loud crack.

The man screamed and crouched down as a loud thunderclap followed the lightning.

Moments later, someone answers the door while the man remains visibly shaken from the close call.

“I thought that was going to hit me,” the man told the person as he delivered the food.

The video then showed him running back to his car unharmed after the delivery.

Preliminary data from the American national lightning safety council reports 12 lightning deaths so far in 2025.

On Wednesday evening, a man was killed by lightning at an outdoor archery range in Jackson Township, New Jersey, with several others injured in the strike.
